MV owners offered rare opportunity

The LST 325 and crew members invite all MV owners to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime offer

July 1, 2009

The LST 325 crew members invite all MV owners to participate in a once-in-a-lifetime offer on August 9, 2009: The opportunity to load your rubber tired/tracked MV on the tank deck of the historic LST 325 vessel located at Evansville, Indiana.

This is one of the Landing Ship Tanks (LST) that was on the beach of Normandy on D-Day.

Weather permitting, and if enough interest is expressed, the plan is to beach the LST on the Ohio River and allow MVs to be loaded and unloaded for a photographic opportunity. The date immediately follows the MVPA Convention to be held Aug. 6-8 also in Evansville.

Cost is $100 per vehicle, due with the application.

Preregistration is required by July 20.

According to the sponsors, the USS LST Ship Memorial, a minimum of 100 vehicles will be required before the event will occur in order to cover the costs of the pilot, spud barge and fuel. If not enough registrations are received, or if it becomes necessary to cancel because of weather, ship breakdowns, river level or safety issues, all application fees will be refunded.

Vehicles are required to pass a safety inspection to participate (i.e. operable brakes, operable emergency brake, lights). The ship safety coordinator will have the final approval.
