The Benny Binion collection of guns from gamblers and gangsters -- including a historic "Machine Gun Kelly" shotgun -- will be sold Sunday, Jan. 29, by California Auctioneers.

In addition, the Historic American Auction will feature a personal collection of pistols from pin stripe legend Von Dutch, well-known for being the "King of Custom Culture" and a gunsmith.

Historic 'Machine Gun Kelly' Nickel Shotgun

This is your opportunity to own an American Gangster relic, with letter of authenticity from Tex Whitson. Owned by Las Vegas Casino owner and legend Benny Binion. Also marked Boss Shannon (Kelly was married to his step-daughter). The Shotgun was given to Benny Binion (late owner of Binion's Horseshoe Casino, Las Vegas, NV) in Ft. Worth by Ora Shannon, mother of Kathryn Kelly and owner of the famous Wise County ranch house "where Boss Shannon and Machine Gun Kelly kept Urschel when they kidnapped him."

The shotgun was kept in Benny Binion's vault; until Binion gave the shotgun to Billy Bob Burnett (of Billy Bob's Texas, the biggest Honky Tonk in Texas) in 1985 where it was kept ultimately in Billy Bob's home behind the bar. The current owner acquired the shotgun in 1994 from Billy Bob Barnett. Included with the shotgun is a letter of authenticity from Tex Whitson (former Binions Horseshoe Casino PR director, Las Vegas Legend Grammy award winning songwriter and music manager for Merle Haggard and George Jones)

Comes with custom case and short film. The 12g shotgun has the John W. Price name on the side. John W. Price was the trade name for the Belknap Hardware company Shotguns. They started before the Civil War in Louisville KY. The Shotgun was probably manufactured by Hunter Arms or one of the Norwich CT companies like Hopkins & Allen. Near the breech reads Pat. Aug 12 1915 which is indicative of the Shotguns sold through Belknap in Louisville.

The auction begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at Callifornia Auctioneers & Appraisers, 8597 Ventura Ave., Ventura, Calif. For an online preview, visit www.californiauctioneers.com. Phone: 805-649-2686.
