SANTA ANA, Calif. The Stack’s Bowers Galleries official paper money auction at the American Numismatic Association’s World’s Fair of Money is scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, Aug. 10 in Anaheim, Calif. The sale is full of new National Bank Note discoveries, high grade rarities, ultra-high denominations and one of the most important Military Payment Certificate collections ever offered.

The Paymaster Collection was assembled by a government employee who received the notes directly from the Bureau of Engraving and Printing and from private printers. No one knew it even existed until May when it was consigned to Stack's Bowers Galleries.

The collection includes progressive proofs from different stages of the printing process, as with these Series 701 5-cent military payment certificates depicting Mark Twain. Image courtesy of Stack’s Bowers Galleries.
