Premiere Collect.com Auction features Enola Gay helmet

A new online auction features helmet signed by Enola Gay crewmembers.

A World War II-era military helmet signed by three important figures involved in ending the war in the Pacific theater is part of the premier auction on Collect.com Auctions. The new online auction began May 29 and will end 10 p.m. ET June 18. There are currently 1,200 lots up for bids, including a wide variety of vintage and modern sports collectibles.

Collect.com is part of Krause Publications, based in Iola, Wis., and the home of Military Trader and Military Vehicles publications. Krause, whose parent company is F&W Media, Cincinnati, Ohio, publishes a wide variety of special interest publications for the hobby world.

Signed WWII Military Helmet with Enola Gay crewmembers Paul Tibbets, Ferebee Van Kirk. This World War II-era military helmet is signed by three important figures involved in ending the war in the Pacific theater. The helmet involves three members of the Enola Gay, the plane used to drop the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan on Aug. 6, 1945, changing warfare forever and ultimately ending World War II.

Each signed this helmet in silver in very clear handwriting with inscriptions. Ferebee added “Bomadier 6 aug. 1945.” Van Kirk signed “Dutch Van Kirk Navigator - Enola Gay Hiroshima - 6 Aug 1945.” Tibbets added “Pilot 6 AUG 1945.” A great military piece marking a monumental time in U.S. history.
