Louis J. Dianni will hold its 3rd Annual Palm Beach Auction Sunday, Feb. 19-Monday, Feb 20 at the Hilton Hotel in West Palm Beach, Fla. The two-day sale will feature more than 700 lots, including arms, armor and militaria.

Day 1 to include: Categories offered include 18th and early 19th century furniture mainly from the estate of Arthur Connolly, 100 paintings, lithographs and prints, lighting including 3 magnificent chandeliers, 25 bronzes, art glass, Chinese glass from the Gadient collection, cloisonne, books, silver, including tea and coffee services by Tiffany and Gorham, jewelry 25 lots of antique and estate jewelry from one estate and including a Van Cleef & Arpels 10 carat diamonds on 18 k gold, Russian lacquer ware boxes, porcelain and pottery, photographs and celebrity items.

Lot# 579. Revolutionary War Iron Stirrups cut away sides and hand welded top strap with additional cutout. Nice overall undisturbed patina. 18th century. Estimate: $50-$100.

Day 2 to include: Signatures including Louis XIV, Christian II, Farragut written from the USS Hartford in 1863, 1836 letter from Tuckalatchee Miccosukkee to Maj. General Jessup, John Ericsson of Monitor fame, and others, collections of Oceanic, African and Native American art, a 34 star Civil War flag with Decatur family provenance, a Civil War frock coat belonging to Commodore William D. Porter, a great Civil War patent model for attacking enemy ships, arms (including a Le Mat Confederate revolver, several Colts, Winchesters, etc.), Native American beadwork, military history items many from the Jay & Miki Mangan collection, Civil War images, armor and early arms including a circa 1600 musket, a circa 1350 broad sword, a full suit of armor, cowboy items, knives and swords, also numerous marine paintings including Pilot boat number 14 by Freitag, a great work by Joseph Heard and many more nautical items.

Lot# 534. WWII Alfred De Courcy & Co, Escape Whistle with Compass. De Courcy model #187. Made to design 700919, 1923. Nickel plated brass. Most compass whistles are of the a dry magnetic type. Though this one seems to be inspired by liquid compasses as used in marine vessels. It is the classical design of what is known as the "Escape Compass", often with a square plate with a red corner. Department 9 of the British Directorate of Military Intelligence (M.I.9- Escaped British Prisoners of War debriefing, escape, and evasion) developed a great number of secret, hidden escape compasses, etc. Estimate: $10-$50.
