Scout Day, 100 Years of Winnie-the-Pooh and more at the National WWI Museum and Memorial
The National WWI Museum and Memorial has a full slate of thought-provoking exhibits this January.
KANSAS CITY, MO. – The National WWI Museum and Memorial honors the long connection between WWI and scouting with Scout Day on Saturday, Jan. 24. The worldwide scouting movement had its birth in the years leading up to the Great War. For this special day, General Admission tickets for $5 will be available (onsite only) to all Scouts and Scout Leaders from all scouting organizations. Scouts and Scout Leaders must be in uniform to receive discounted admission. Regular admission tickets for additional guests will be available for purchase online and onsite.
Also on Saturday, Jan. 24, celebrate 100 years of the “tubby little cubby all stuffed with fluff” at Winnie-the-Pooh Day – an educational extravaganza for all ages! Activities last from 10:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. and include crafts, dessert, a performance from The Coterie, an educational talk with the Kansas City Public Library and guided micro-tours (first-come, first-served. GA tickets required).
On Jan. 15, A German Jew’s Triumph: Fritz Oppenheimer will be hosted as a part of the commemorations for America’s 250th. From a Prussian soldier on the Western Front to a U.S. Army major helping to denazify his homeland decades later, journey through Fritz Oppenheimer’s incredible story spanning an ocean and two world wars. This event is free with RSVP, onsite and online.
The Elements of Marie Curie takes place on Thursday, Jan. 29. Author Dava Sobel illuminates the life and enduring influence of scientist Marie Skłodowska-Curie from a unique angle – through the women who became her legacy, including her daughter Irène. This event is free with RSVP, onsite and online.
