A brief peek inside the Indiana Military Museum
The Indiana Military Museum is a place where history is told through the artifacts and military vehicles that helped write it.
Vincennes, Indiana - Vincennes, Indiana has a must-stop destination, the Indiana Military Museum. The museum is home to one of the best, most comprehensive collections of military memorabilia in the country. In addition to the museum’s own artifacts, including military vehicles, aircraft, uniforms, insignia, and equipment from the American Revolution to present day, it also hosts traveling exhibits from the Smithsonian Institution and others.
Below are just a few of the historic military vehicles that the museum has to offer.
Renault Modele 1914 EP/GZ
Renault Modele 1914 EP/GZ is a field hospital surgery sterilization truck used by the French Army from 1914-1918, and was a technological advancement in its day. The large capacity trucks were used by the medical corps of French and American armies. Commonly assigned in pairs for field hospitals, one truck carried the surgeon, nurse and supplies while the second truck, pictured here, carried the steam operated sterilization unit for cleaning instruments. Parked alongside in pairs, canvas awnings could be hung between the trucks to protect patients and surgeons from the elements. Some of the Renault trucks brought brand new X-ray technology to the field. This truck is believed by the Indiana Military Museum to be the last of its kind in the world.
