Morphy Auction's Las Vegas Fine Firearms sales event to be held on Saturday, January 23th, 2016. All lots from this sale are on display in Morphy's Las Vegas auction gallery and available for preview now.
The Las Vegas Fine Firearms Sales Event will feature a full range of rifles, shotguns, revolvers, pistols, carbines, and other militaria at every price point. This auction will be held in conjunction with the January 2016 Las Vegas Arms Collectors show and concurrent to the SHOT Show industry conference. It will present over 950 lots across all collecting categories.
No firearms manufacturer seems to capture the imagination of enthusiasts like Winchester. As such, this auction offers over 100 examples from this legendary company that began producing fine firearms in 1866. Collectors will have the ability to bid on Winchester rifles including lot #10, an investment quality, all original Model 1873 deluxe sporting rifle which matches all factory specifications and has seen very little use; lot #33, a deluxe big bore deluxe Model 71 lever action rifle in near mint condition; lot #172, all original Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle manufactured in 1891); and lot #13, a special order Model 1873 deluxe short rifle in all original factory condition.
Other high caliber Winchester selections in this sales event include lot #466, a special order Model 21 side by side (SxS) shotgun, considered by many to be the finest domestic SxS shotgun ever manufactured, and lot #12, deluxe Model 1886 Takedown Saddle Ring Carbine, described by our catalogers as "the most handsome 86 carbine we have ever seen." But the grand prize here just might be lot #570, a phenomenal special order 1886 "Big 50." This highly sought after, extraordinary lever action firearm has perfect action, and a strong, near mint bore.
The auction will offer a selection of double guns. Two examples truly deserve a second look. The first is lot #94, a cased pair of English John Wilkes 20 Bore Doubles which includes full accessories and is housed in its original oak and leather case. It retains its maker label and is finished in maroon velvet.
The second set of doubles on offer is lot #253, a pair of matched Brace Watson Brothers London guns. The Watson Brothers opened their shop on Old Bond Street in 1885, where they operated through 1929. During their tenure, their workmanship was so highly prized that they were named as the official gun maker to the Sultan of Turkey. Aside from a few very minor impressions in the wood, these firearms have survived the better part of a century in spectacular condition.
Revolvers will be up for auction. Lot #50, a U.S. Colt 3rd Model Dragoon from 1857, will be for sale with a two leaf folding rear sight and all matching numbers. All eyes will be on lot #46, a 1850-60's era "Navy Model" Whitney with a fine bore and perfect action. This revolver features scroll engraving - attributed to Conrad Ulrich - on both sides of the frame, cylinder, back strap, trigger guard, butt, and barrel breech.
Ammunition, books, swords, bayonets, and other militaria - including over 50 lots of knives - round out this targeted auction event.
Other highlights include fine examples from manufacturers including Purdey, Perrazi, Cogswell & Harrison, Watson Brothers , Browning, and Remington.
