Sgt. Kyle Clayton Thomas, 24, of the Senatobia-based 2d Battalion, 198th Armored Regiment, was killed Monday night when the vehicle he was in was involved in a tank rollover. Thomas and three other members of the 2nd Battalion, 198 Armored Regiment (AR) were conducting combat maneuver operations in a M1A2 SEPv2 Abrams Main Battle Tank.

The 2-198 AR is a subordinate battalion within the Tupelo-based 155th Armored Brigade Combat Team and was performing combat maneuver operations on Monday, Memorial Day, at the Ft. Irwin National Training Center. They were among 5,500 soldiers and sailors who were participating in a joint exercise designed to replicate real combat. The exercise, which runs from May 18 to June 15, includes insurgent and guerrilla scenarios. The incident is under investigation.
