Prayer books to armed forces tops half million
Knights of Columbus began handbook distribution in 2003
Members of the Knights of Columbus delivered 100,000 military prayer books to the headquarters of the Military Archdiocese for the Military Services, at 1025 Michigan Ave., NE in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 30.
This latest printing of "Armed With The Faith: A Catholic Handbook for Military Personnel" brings the total number printed and donated since 2003 to half a million copies.
The version provided to members of the armed forces are spiral bound, printed on special coated stock, and are sized to fit in the pockets of uniforms worn in the field. Another version, printed on regular paper, is offered through the Knights of Columbus Catholic Information Service to the families of service members.
The prayer books are distributed by Catholic Chaplains in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Last year, the Knights of Columbus also produced "Armour of Faith: A Catholic Handbook for Canadian Military Personnel", and 30,000 of that version have been printed and distributed for Canadian soldiers.
