14-7-1. Jim F. says that this item is either brass or copper and it is 8" long with the horn end being 2-3/8". What is it?
John T. Adkins wrote to say that 14-7-1 is a football official's horn used during the 1940s and 1950s. The yellow flag replaced the horn. He explained, "The horn had a brass reed and the mouth piece screwed on at the shoulder of the horn. It was worn around the official's neck by shoestring laced through the loop on the neck of the horn." Mr. Adkins still has his, though he said it has been 60 years since he has officiated.
