Navy reverses rating decision

The Navy has decided to restore its 241-year-old job ratings system. This reverses the decision made this past September that prompted widespread outcry from Veterans and active Naval personnel. The restoration of Navy rating titles was announced in a Navy administrative message signed by Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson.

Initially, the Navy had plan to replace all 91 historical ratings in an effort to make career paths that transitioned to civilian employment. Job titles such as yeoman, boatswain’s mate, and hospital corpsman would have been eliminated and alphanumeric codes used in their place.
