US Army veteran Robert De La Rosa restores his 1966 M151A1 MUTT after buying it in 2012 and completely rebuilding it to perfection.
Robert De La Rosa, US Army SFC Ret (1986-2006), of San Antonio, worked long and hard to get his 1966 M151A1 MUTT looking this good! He found out about the MUTT through a work contact, “so I went over to check it out and bought this out of impulse not knowing much about the M151 at all in 2012 for $2,000,” he says. “After researching it I now know I had paid too much in its condition... I have done all the restoration and learning as I work on it. I’m more of a modern mechanic working on M1 Abrams and M2 Bradley vehicles systems on active duty back in the day. After tearing it apart and buying panels from Guy (fender tops, underbody panels, side panels, and floor panels) plus many parts from Rapco and Army Jeep Parts then getting technical help from RickF, Muttguru, and many others to count... I rebuilt the top end of the engine, replaced the body panels, and custom made the bikini top that turned out nice. Comes in handy in Texas where it’s hot 7 of 12 months.”
