Two years after attending his first military vehicle show at Fort Dix, New Jersey, Daryl Bensinger graduated from Shippensburg State College in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. He then worked two years as a line supervisor at Hamilton Technology, in Lancaster, Penn., where he supervised the manufacture of M577 howitzer fuses and Rockeye cluster bomb fuses. About that time, he began to dabble in buying and selling military vehicle parts. After working for the farm machinery manufacturer, New Holland Machine Company in New Holland, Penn., he became a full-time military vehicle parts and restoration service supplier in 1992. Over the years, Daryl has restored numerous vehicles and sold parts to customers doing their own work. Today, D&L Bensinger, Military Vehicle Parts concentrates mainly on selling parts and is a direct importer of replacement jeep bodies.
Daryl describes his business, “If you are restoring an MV and looking for parts, just looking for parts to get and/or keep your MV running, or are looking to buy a “project” jeep or a restored jeep; you have come to the right place!”
In addition to Joe’s Motor Pool products, D&L Bensinger Military Vehicle Parts features MD Juan replacement bodies and accessories for MB/GPW, M38/A1 and CJ2, 3, 5, 7 and 8. Daryl and Lida have been selling and installing these bodies on their restorations for nearly 20 years. Their customers benefit from their years of experience in working with the product. One of the hallmarks of each body they sell is that it arrives complete with many extras that other dealers do not offer.
Daryl is also an MVPA Technical Advisor specializing in the M422/M422A1 Mighty-Mite.
Daryl and Lida have been ardent supporters of the hobby dating back to that first show at Fort Dix in 1976. That year, Daryl became the 443rd member of the MVCC (Military Vehicle Collectors Club). After the MVCC went through some changes, it reemerged as the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA). Today, Daryl is proud to be an MVPA life member. He and Lida have attended a variety of shows including local rallies, MVPA National Conventions, the War and Peace show in England and several D-Day anniversaries. They have also enjoyed participating in MVPA convoys. Daryl continues to write articles and both work hard to support their customers and the hobby, at large. The couple’s current motorpool includes MB/GPW, WC51, WC54, M151, Mighty Mite, Weasel, M37, CCKW, and Diamond T.
The one thing that Daryl and Lida want our MVM readers to know is, “We offer a high level of customer service for the products we sell.”
