The recent movement of a UH-1 Huey helicopter to the historical artifacts on display at the site of the new Virginia National Guard headquarters building March 10, 2018, at Defense Supply Center Richmond in Chesterfield County, Virginia, was followed on April 8 with the movement of a F-84 Thunderstreak and a M-41 Walker Bulldog. Scheduled for an official opening on 14 May 2018, the exterior of the new HQ will feature a number of historical aircraft and vehicles/artillery pieces representing equipment used by Virginia National Guard soldiers and airmen.
Interior exhibits will feature a tribute to all Virginia Army and Air Guardsmen who served in the Global War on Terrorism: OIF, OEF and subsequent campaigns, a display in honor of the three current anniversaries: Vietnam 50 years, WW2 75 years, and WW1 100 years, and a display of artifacts and photographs depicting the history of the Virginia Guard since 1607. Other interior artifacts will include the German 1916-dated 245mm Minenwerfer recovered by the VANG in 2016, an F-16 Cockpit trainer, and a 1918 litter used by the Virginia Home Guard in Richmond during the Spanish Flu epidemic.
