Bostwick Colt collection part of Major Gun Auction & Show

Liska and Associates Auctioneers will sell the estate of Victor Fogle of Springfield, Ore., and Bostwick Colt collection as part of its Major Gun Auction & Show. The event will be held Sept. 15-16 at the Josephine County Fairgrounds, 1451 Fairgrounds Rd., Grants Pass, Ore. Sales begin at 9 a.m. both days.

James A. Crowley, a law enforcement historian, shares some history of the Bostwick collection, partially pictured above:

“Mr. B.T. “Big Dog” Bostwick 1887-1967, an honorary captain on many tri-state Midwestern police departments, participated in hundreds of manhunts for some of America’s most notorious criminals of the day, such as “Public Enemy Number One – John Dillinger”. He and his beloved bloodhounds were known to always get their man. Big Dog was an avid gun collector and much of his collection was comprised of firearms and weapons confiscated from fugitives he captured while assisting posses.

“On a lighter note, Big Dog was known to be very frugal and was often told by his fellow lawmen that he probably had the first nickel he ever made. They were right – he did! And it’s included in the collection along with many of his personal effects.”

Other auction highlights include: Thompson autos, Luger’s, Winchester, shotguns. machine guns, Colts, Ruger, black powder, clips, ammo and gun parts.
